I'd love to hear other people's experiences with these kinds of tools. How far would a tool like this get you in writing a track? Demo it and find out for yourself! But is it essential? It just depends on how complex your compositions are. Captain Plugins are designed be used inside your DAW only, and can be used in the composition and production of a whole track. Chord suggestion seems to be an incredible feature, IMO one of the main selling points of Scaler. A Odesi is self-contained composition package for when you want to work on music outside of your DAW, a sketch pad to help get your ideas flowing. I could see Scaler being useful for when you've exhausted the most go-to progressions and you find yourself going down the same roads again and again. But it really depends on what you're doing. Yes, it was easy to throw ideas together quickly, but the part of composition it got me through was like the first exciting 10% of writing a track. I ended up not finding Odesi that useful. Apparently the super powerful DAW I paid lots of $$$ for is too distracting, so I needed simpler, more limited software that forced me to focus on composition without indexing too heavily on sound design or the technical aspects of production. I recently tried Odesi, which is a sort of standalone version of Captain Plugins. Here's a quick personal experience with one of the Captain tools that might help you decide if you need a composition tool at all. 265 Value Features: In Captain Beat, Mix and match over 500 incredible patterns to create your own unique rhythms.
